Additional Information:
Stampe et Vertongen was a Belgian aircraft manufacturer that formed in 1922 and based at Antwerp. The company specialized in the design and construction of primary and advanced trainers and touring aircraft. The Stampe-Vertongen SV.4 was just one of their aircraft and is sometimes called the “Stampe”. The SV.4 was designed as a biplane touring and training aircraft in the early 1930s and came with redesigned wings and a 130 hp de Havilland Gipsy Major engine. Only 35 aircraft were eventually built before the company was closed during the Second World War.
A licensed SV.4c version was built in France by SNCAN (Société Nationale de Constructions Aéronautiques du Nord). The SV.4c version came with a 140 hp Renault 4Pei engine.
This SV.4c trainer, N-39-GL, was built in France in 1938 and was used as a basic flight trainer until the mid 1950s. Glenn Lloyd from Albuquerque restored N-39-GL in 1976.
