Additional Information:
The Douglas DC-8 is an early long-range narrow-body jetliner designed and produced by the Douglas Aircraft Company. Douglas announced in June of 1955 the jetliner project marketed to civil operators. The first DC-8 was rolled out in Long Beach Airport on April 9, 1958, and flew for the first time on May 30. Following Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification, the DC-8 entered service with Delta Air Lines on September 18, 1959.
The “Super DC-8″ Series 61 was designed for high capacity and medium range. It had the same wings, engines and pylons but it sacrificed range to gain capacity. The stretched DC-8 design variant first flew on March 14, 1966, and was certified on September 2, 1966. Deliveries began in January of 1967 and it entered service in February of 1967.
Delta Air Lines is one of the top four largest airlines in the United States with an extensive international route network as well. Delta commenced operations in 1929 at Monroe, Louisiana and grew with a southern route structure building hubs at Atlanta and Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) as well as using Chicago-O’Hare and Miami as major focal points. Delta is now based in Atlanta and began service to Albuquerque on February 15, 1983 with three daily flights to DFW using Boeing 727-200 aircraft.
Delta Air Lines landed this DC-8-61 N826E in Albuquerque on July 15, 1982 when a passenger on the flight from Los Angeles to Dallas suffered a heart attack. The passenger survived.
