The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) owns and operates a fleet of Cessna 172 Skyhawk aircraft. The Cessna 172 was first developed in 1956 and thousands were manufactured.
The New Mexico Civil Air Patrol used several Cessna 172 aircraft in their fleet beginning in 1966. The aircraft has an ability to carry four passengers but due to New Mexico’s higher altitude the capacity was limited to three people. The engine was later upgraded to 180hp and the performance improved considerably. The aircraft has a mission time of 3.5 hours, with a one hour reserve.
