The Boeing 767 is a wide-body airliner developed and manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. The aircraft was launched as the 7X7 program on July 14, 1978, the prototype first flew on September 26, 1981, and the aircraft was certified on July 30, 1982. The initial 767-200 variant entered service on September 8, 1982 with United Airlines. A total of 742 of these aircraft were in service in July 2018, with Delta Air Lines being the largest operator with 77 aircraft in its fleet. As of April 2024, Boeing has received 1,407 orders from 74 customers, of which 1,308 airplanes have been delivered.

Delta Air Lines is one of the top four largest airlines in the United States with an extensive international route network as well. Delta commenced operations in 1929 at Monroe, Louisiana and grew with a southern route structure building hubs at Atlanta and Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) as well as using Chicago-O’Hare and Miami as major focal points. Delta is now based in Atlanta and began service to Albuquerque on February 15, 1983 with three daily flights to DFW using Boeing 727-200 aircraft.

Delta Air Lines began service with the Boeing 767 N-655DL from Albuquerque to Dallas, Texas and Los Angeles, California on April 1, 1991. The model on display is wearing one of the special liveries used for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. The Boeing 767 was one of the newer wide-body jetliners beginning service in the 1990s.
