Trans-Texas Airways Convair 600

In 1966 Trans-Texas Airways, “TTA”,  started to fly the second generation of turboprop by converting its Convair 240 fleet with new Rolls Royce engines and renaming the aircraft to the Convair 600.  This was the latest version of upgrading the Convair series to support TTA service to Texas and New Mexico. Several tail numbers that landed here were N94224, N94240, N265, and N13017.  The collection has two models of the TTA Convair 600, one in the original livery and another in a later color scheme adopted in 1969 when the carrier changed its name to Texas International Airlines.  In 1972 the Convair 600 would go on to wear a third livery until the aircraft was retired in 1979 and Texas Intenational became an all-jet airline flying Douglas DC-9’s.

The first photo shows the Convair 600 in its original livery.The second photo shows the livery only worn by the carrier from 1969 through 1972 (same as the model in the display). The bottom two photos show the final livery. All but the first photo were taken at the Albuquerque Sunport.
