The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) has used Piper J-3 Cubs for training and search and rescue missions since 1942. The Piper Cub is one of the best small aircraft ever made for these types of missions. By 1973, the CAP was still flying J-3s in New Mexico with aircraft numbers N-267-T and NC-98460 being documented at Albuquerque.
