Additional Information:
The US Forest Service had used contractor operated World War II surplus bombers to drop slurry on New Mexico forest fires. The Douglas A-26 “Invader” was a popular type of aircraft used to drop the fire retardant to prevent the fire from spreading. The Douglas A-26, N-9301-R, was used to fight a fire which burned on the west face of the Sandia’s in July of 1967.
